Sometimes
you just have to get out and walk! Date unknown but believed to be in 1969.
An F-105 with battle damage (or it just decided to fall down, go BOOM!)
is about to make a hard landing at the end of the runway at Takhli. The
pilot decided to walk home. He can be seen hanging in his 'chute just to
the left and above the ejection charge smoke. The seat (which was stolen
by some Takhli citizens when it hit the ground) can be seen in between.
The Thud is in the lower left corner. The photograph was taken by an unidentified
Airman who was perched on a dumpster near the flight line.

dispatch dated October 9, 1969 - Crash Ends Mission - Bangkok -A United
States Air Force F105 bomber crashed and burned while landing at
Takhli base in Thailand upon returning
from a mission over Vietnam (Note: Laos was a dirty word at this time),
a military spokesman said Thursday. The pilot was not injured.
Fighting the resulting blaze are
AIC Ray W. Bradley and Thai civilian Nappal Penchan. |
