
| Captain Jim White wanted to have his picture
made with some battle damage his aircraft took in October of 1969. A short
time later, on November 26, Capt. White was shot down over Laos. The AP
wire story which appeared stateside and in the Pacific Stars and Stripes
said, in part...

His brother, Edwin White II, was the first
American to walk in space. He
On a personal note, Capt. White's wife, Sharon,
was listed as living in Bangkok. She actually lived in one of the places
in downtown Takhli, I understand. I don't know who had to tell her, but
you can imagine being all alone in a strange country and having to deal
with such a blow. When I took the photograph, I remember Jim telling me
that he was going into the astronaut program when he got back to the states.
First, he had to have a Vietnam tour to be considered.
