Still More Memory Joggers From Clarence Dick

<<()'/\/\'()>>

Clarence took a train ride to Bangkok towards the end of his tour.  Some of these are from that trip.

This and the photo on the right are actually a panorama. They are shot from the Takhli train station looking out on the town side (west).  The little circle in the street was still there in the '80s.

USAF typical blue pickup.  Driving these to town was very dangerous.  Steering wheel on wrong side for Thailand.  You had to have a rider or lots of guts to pass a vehicle.  Road to base on right in this photo, see photo labeled "Main Street" in earlier page by Clarence.

Steam locomotives were still common on Thai trains then.  This was apparently taken on the way to Bangkok, although I am pretty sure it is not in Takhli itself (too many tracks).

Indian cloth merchant in Takhli.  Most of the material in town moved through this shop.  Many of us had shirts tailored here or on the base, they were very reasonable.

The "new" NCO hootches.  These were much quieter and more private than the old open hootches.  But also much hotter.

Typical Thai labor crew.  Thai women worked as hard on construction jobs as the men.  "New" two-story dorms in the background.
